Most visa applicants are required to undergo health tests before being granted their visas. The only exeptions to this are some short term temporary residence visas such as Tourist visas.
Australia has very strict health standards and you will be required to undergo a chest x-ray and medical examination for most visas. The examinations vary in accordance with the type of visa and the proposed length of stay.
All examinations are conducted by Panel Doctors who are appointed by the Australian government. If you are in Australia you will attend a Health Services Australia centre in the capital city of each State or you may get permission to attend a doctor in a regional area. If you are overseas you will be provided with a list of approved doctors and medical centres and you must attend one of these.
All applicants, including children, are required to do medicals if this is a pre-requisite to the grant of the visa. Only people over 11 years of age are required to do x-rays.
