Anyone wishing to enter Australia on a temporary or permanent basis is required to be of good character. In order for the Australian Government to determine this, you may be asked to provide a police certificate from a country you have resided in for a specific period. Any prior convictions must be declared upon your application and failure to do so could result in you being refused a visa or having a visa cancelled.

The Department of Home Affairs (DOHA) may also request a character assessment form (Form 80) to be completed to satisfy the character requirements criteria. Unless otherwise advised by DOHA, police certificates are only required for persons over the age of 16 years.

Further information on obtaining police clearances is available on the website of the Department Of Home Affairs at https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/help-support/contact-us/offices-and-locations/offices-outside-australia
