INTRO TO VISA
This visa allows the guardian of an International Student who is a minor, to accompany them to Australia to assist with their day to day care and guardianship. The Guardian Visa is for a direct family member only and has not work rights or study rights.
ABOUT THIS VISA
This is a temporary visa and the time period is determined by the length of the student visa to which it is attached. This visa allows the holder to live in Australia to provide care and support for student visa holders who are under 18 years of age or under exceptional circumstances for those over 18. The applicant is required to be the parent, custodian or relative of the student and must be over the age of 21 years. The holder will provide the student with accommodation, welfare and other support and will be required to show that they have sufficient funds to support themselves and the student they are caring for.
The applicant is required to show that they meet and maintain health and character requirements.
AFTER GRANT
The visa holder is entitled to study ELICOS English for up to 20 hours per week and any other field of study for up to 3 months but may not work. The visa holder is entitled to remain in Australia for the period of the student’s visa. The visa holder is not allowed to leave Australia without the student visa holder unless they can show that alternative arrangements for care have been made for the period of absence.
