INTRO TO VISA

This permanent visa lets a parent of a settled Australian citizen or Permanent Resident of Australia or Eligible New Zealand Citizen move to Australia to live.  Parents on this visa are also allowed to study and work in Australia.

ABOUT THIS VISA

This visa is lodged offshore or onshore but there is no bridging visa attached to this visa application.  The applicant is required to remain offshore until the visa is granted. If the applicant is a holder of the Subclass 173 Contributory Parent (Temporary) Visa then they are able to lodge onshore and remain on their subclass 173 visa during the processing of the Subclass 143.  The applicant can enter Australia on another visa during that time provided they meet the requirements of that visa.

The applicant must be sponsored by their Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident Child and must meet the requirements for balance of family.  The applicant must also meet health and character requirements and pay the 2nd Visa Application Fee prior to the visa being granted.

The sponsor is required to lodge a sponsorship and show that they are of good character and can support the applicant if required. The sponsor is required to lodge an Assurance of Support to prove they are able to support the applicant if required. There are limitations on sponsorship and the sponsor must be aware of these prior to lodging the sponsorship application.

AFTER GRANT

Once the Visa is approved, the applicant will be an Australian Permanent Resident and will be entitled to remain in Australia indefinitely. The applicant will be entitled to Medicare Benefits. This visa also allows the applicant to apply for citizenship when they have met the Citizenship requirements.
