INTRO TO VISA

The subclass 820 visa is an onshore temporary resident partner visa. This Visa is a two-part process. The 820 visa is only a temporary visa, but it is the pathway for holders to gain their Permanent Visa subclass 801.

ABOUT THIS VISA

You will need to firstly lodge a combined 820/801 visa application, but can only do so if you qualify with the following:

  • You must be in a married or de-facto relationship with an Australian citizen or permanent resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen
  • You and your Sponsor must be 18 years of age or older
  • You must be in a genuine relationship and to be able to prove it
  • You must be in Australia when you apply for this Visa
  • You must be in Australia at Time of grant
  • Two years after lodging the initial 820 visa, you must be able to provide to immigration further evidence of your ongoing relationship in order to obtain permanent residency (801)
AFTER GRANT

Once Granted, the applicant, is still only a temporary resident, but has no restrictions to work, live and study in Australia.
